EXHIBITION - 24/02/2023 TO 05/05/2023
BOBBI LOCKYER: 4 OCEAN
The Junction Co. and Courthouse Gallery+Studio warmly welcome all to the exhibition opening of Bobbi Lockyer: 4 Ocean.
Bobbi Lockyer: 4 Ocean features a body of work that examines sustainability in our regional Australian communities. The work presented probes the impacts of environmental negligence and pollution around us and across our ocean. Lockyer’s ongoing inquiry into the deep effects of colonisation and its repercussions on saltwater people has culminated into the deeply considered work. The series of painting, mixed media and textile works contemplate First Nations People and their deep connection to the ocean, and their unwavering strength and devotion towards the planet.
4 Ocean is a compelling reminder and reflection of our mark on the world, consequences of the actions of those past and present.
Bobbi Lockyer is a proud Ngarluma, Kariyarra, Nyulnyul and Yawuru woman who was born and raised in Port Hedland. Lockyer is an established artist working in multiple art forms, including painting, photography and fashion. She is now a household name in Port Hedland and the wider Australia as an accomplished regional artist. In 2021, Lockyer was named NAIDOC Artist of the Year, winning the highly respected award and has had her art and photography published all over the world, including Vogue magazine and the Paris Fashion Week runway.
Bobbi Lockyer participated in Radius 2.0, The Junction Co.’s emerging artist launchpad in 2021 and exhibited her work in the group exhibition. Since then, she has seen great success and growth through multiple creative projects.
