Distant Fire from Cooke Point

Scrub fires are a constant occurrence across the Pilbara landscape and occasionally they encroach upon the inhabited areas. This fire took hold about 40kms out of Hedland. It was late morning and the sun was quite high when I observed this view from Cooke Pt. The smoke was rising high into the atmosphere and creating its own clouds. The composition considers the vertical scale of the smoke while exploring the horizontal perspective from the dunes in the foreground, across the sands at low tide, to the distant dunes beyond.
A limited palette of oils on canvas built the earthy tones, light-coloured sands under a Pilbara blue sky.
