Audio Description

The Metro Hotel has stood tall in South Perth on the Canning Highway for many years, this building for many evokes feelings of nostalgia. This scene, captured on a rare trip to Perth at the end of 2022, the blue skies contrasting to the bold red sign at the top of the Metro building, the gentle creeping rose in the foreground and the graffiti on the wall take me on a journey. To my childhood, school holidays, visits to my grandfather eating Minties and Red Rooster from around the corner. Then to later times, wilder times in my 20’s spent with friends in the neighbourhood and the ‘long’ commute down Canning Highway to and from work. The Metro is an iconic building a forgotten building, one that I imagine holds many secrets inside its walls, but one that is sure to trigger memories.
