Wreck of the Sky

Audio Description

The Catalinas of Roebuck Bay are flying boat wrecks sunk during World War Two fighting in Broome, WA. The planes have been shaped by time, the tides, and the salt, but their bones remain well preserved in the mud. The Catalinas and their stories have become part of the landscape of the bay, and of the community of Broome. In this painting, I explore how collective experiences become embedded in our sense of place and identity and shape the landscapes of our communities.
