Boab Tree on the Gibb River Road
With this artwork I hope to give the viewer a feel of remote Australia. I wanted to bring out the striking colours, the contrasts and the textures. I visited the Gibb River Road in the Kimberley on a recent road trip and the light was perfect to highlight the Boab Tree and give reflections in the water. The ranges are awe inspiring and a striking background for the boabs and other trees that are dotted around the landscape. I have interpreted that with vibrant colour and bold, loose brush strokes. The painting is done with acrylic paints on canvas and the fast drying time suits me, it pushes me to work at capturing the general sense and feeling of the landscape and leave out unnecessary detail.
