NAOMIE HATHERLEY

Nature vs Nurture

This work connects past, present and future: granddaughter, daughter mother, grandmother. The forms on the metal plates are inspired by our local women’s football league in the West Kimberley, including my own daughter who is the origin of my inspiration. I paint in gratitude to these women for taking my daughter under their collective wing at a critical time in her life. The blanket is an ode to my maternal grandmother (dec.) who was an avid football fan, and who would yell at the telly and kick goals for the Eagles and Dockers from her armchair while knitting or crocheting footy blankets. The plates were from our local Derby league.
