Natawalu

Ann has depicted her mother’s country Natawalu, Well 37 on the Canning Stock Route in the Great Sandy Desert. The central circle (with white dotted outlines) represents the rock hole Natawalu. The waving lines represent the sandhills which dominate the landscape. The circles spread across the canvas represent a variety of bush foods, including kumpupatja (bush tomato) and karnti (bush potato) which Ann’s mother would walk between these places collecting seeds and gathering bush tucker with her family.
