What Lies Beneath
This artwork is part of a series I began on January 1st 2023 which started as an ode to my pony, Ruby. The decided to restrict my use of materials, opting for a blue biro on A4 watercolour paper. I wanted to explore where these constraints would lead me. The aim was to draw everyday for a year. I began by drawing images of Ruby from photos and then around early April I began experimenting with concealing the images of Ruby within patterns and then landscapes. The series contains 75 images and is called ‘Hidden Horses’. It’s an exploration of discovery to see what lies beneath the surface of things. An invitation to look deeply into our landscape at the minutiae of details that we often overlook in our rush to get somewhere.
