We are excited to announce an upcoming exhibition and Artist in Residency (AiR) program, ‘per-Spective Lines’, featuring renowned ceramicist Andrea Vinkovic from Perth, and multidisciplinary artists Chelsea Mcauliffe from Karratha, and Amelia Blanco from Port Hedland. This program aims to explore and celebrate Karratha and its surrounding unique landscape through collaborative creativity. Our goal is to foster community engagement by showcasing the talents of both local and established artists, while encouraging community participation in the creation of collective works.

The exhibition will centre around the theme of “aerial perspectives” and “exploring the colours of the landscape,” capturing the beauty of the region from above and highlighting the textures and colours of the land, sea, and surrounds.

Andrea Vinkovic, a renowned Western Australian ceramicist with over 30years experience, will work with WA-sourced clay, incorporating detailed textures to create small ceramic pieces that will form part of a larger hanging work. Andrea will conduct community-based workshops, engaging schools, community groups, organisations, and the public in creating these ceramic pieces. Through these workshops, Andrea will invite the community to experience their interpretation of the landscape and encourage them to use clay to tell their stories, creating tone with colour and texture. This collaborative effort will contribute to a larger-scale body of work, showcasing a community-driven masterpiece.

Chelsea Mcauliffe, a Karratha artist, will produce a body of work that strongly represents the regional landscape. Even though they will be working in separate mediums, the collaboration between Andrea and Chelsea will be evident in the exhibition, showcasing the synergy between their artworks, producing an impactful experience.

Amelia Blanco’s focus will be on producing a time-based media, documenting the collaborative and artistic process, capturing the essence of the program. This documentation will be shown throughout the festival.

As an arts organisation, The Junction Co. is proud to showcase the collaboration across a diverse range of emerging and established artists and the local community.

The AiR program will run from April 30th to May 15th in Karratha, with workshop details to be confirmed. Andrea will conduct workshops with the community to create collaborative works for the exhibition, which will open on the first night of the REAF Festival on May 15th. The outcomes of these workshops and collaborations will be the backbone of the exhibition.

Community members are encouraged to participate in the workshops and contribute to the overall per-Spective Lines show. This exhibition and residency program is a unique opportunity to celebrate the rich natural beauty of the Pilbara region. We invite all partners, stakeholders, staff, and the media to support this program, attend the events, and help spread the word.
