Looking for some hands-on fun for the kids these school holidays? Portside has you covered with a playful mix of colour, creativity, and connection – right in the heart of Portside.
Join us in the Gallery Gardens, and in our creative spaces for four exciting events designed to bring families together and add a creative spark to our town.
Colour Our Community: Portside Bunting Project
Monday, 7 July | 12pm–2pm | All Ages | Free
Bring the kids along for a relaxed afternoon of colouring fun in the Gallery Gardens! Children of all ages can help transform Portside with bright, hand-coloured bunting flags that will be proudly displayed in shopfronts throughout town – a shared celebration of creativity and community spirit.
Top It Off! Race Day Hat Decorating
Thursday, 10 July | 12pm–1pm | Ages 6+ | $5
Inspired by Family Day at the Port Hedland Turf Club, this garden workshop is all about flair and fun! Kids can decorate white craft hats with feathers, florals, ribbons, and stickers – and race away with their own colourful creation.
Portside Movie Night: Sweet As
Friday, 11 July | 9pm–11pm | All Ages | Free
Snuggle under the Pilbara sky for a special outdoor screening of Sweet As – the debut feature film by Nyul Nyul/Yawuru filmmaker Jub Clerc. Filmed in Hedland and inspired by Clerc’s own youth, this heartfelt coming-of-age story celebrates connection, country, and hope. Food available at the Silver Star Café (open late), or BYO your cosiest snacks and blanket.

Turn your favourite book into a sparkling masterpiece in this bedazzling workshop for readers and crafters alike! With rhinestones, glitter, glue, and imagination on hand, transform your beloved novel into something truly unique. Bring your own book – or choose from a selection provided.
