Empowering Regional Creatives

Managed by The Junction Co. on behalf of the Town of Port Hedland since 2018, The Courthouse Gallery+Studio is a central, attractive, and dedicated artistic space in the Portside precinct of Port Hedland. The Courthouse Gallery aims to become a cultural beacon by nurturing and showcasing the rich tapestry of local stories, culture, and creativity, empowering artists, inspiring creativity, engaging diverse communities, and enriching the cultural landscape through a welcoming destination for creative expression and cultural exchange.

The Junction Co. is developing a five-year strategic plan to align with the Town’s Art and Culture Plan 2023-2027, enhancing the skills, capabilities, and opportunities for local artists. Upholding values of encouragement, empowerment, and inclusion, The Junction Co. champions the creative community, nurtures emerging talent, enhances artistic skills through workshops, and provides creative spaces. Their efforts ensure that creativity and artistic expression thrive across the Pilbara region, making a lasting impact.

The Gallery hosts a variety of programs and exhibitions, including the IOTA Exhibition, The Jury Art Prize, and the Youth Exhibition. Additionally, we run capacity-building initiatives such as the Colours program, which works with disability artists, and supports artists like Paulette Jadzinski, who has been recognised and awarded by the artist industry. These efforts ensure that creativity and artistic expression thrive across the Pilbara region, making a lasting impact.

Highlight Program

Listening Geographies, Portraits of Mirage Country is a captivating exhibition presented as part of IOTA24 (Indian Ocean Triennial), showcasing a dynamic collaboration between three multidisciplinary artists and the Hedland community. Through immersive artist residencies and public programming, the exhibition weaves tactile, luminous, and sonic narratives that reveal the layered histories of Marapikurrinya Yintha (Port Hedland) – from its deep ecological roots to its contemporary industrial and multicultural identity. This project invites audiences to experience place through sensory storytelling, offering a profound reflection on the region’s evolving landscape and cultural resonance.

By welcoming these artists into the Courthouse Gallery+Studiospace, the exhibition enriches the Gallery’s public programming with fresh perspectives and participatory experiences. Community members are invited to engage directly with the creative process, through workshops, collaborative projects, and dialogue – fostering personal expression and collective connection. This initiative not only amplifies the voices of regional artists and residents but also transforms the Gallery into a vibrant cultural hub where creativity, conversation, and collaboration thrive.
