Hereditas

ARTIST: Katherine Tawse

TITLE: Hereditas

DESCRIPTION: “Hereditas” stands as a witness to origin, belonging, and the ties that bind generations across distance and time. The figures hold their ground, framed by blossoms that illustrate both homeland and new soil, a testimony that identity is never effaced but carried forward.

This work contemplates inheritance not only of blood, but of spirit. Heritage here is honoured as sacred: a legacy entrusted, a story borne in the body, and a virtue that goes beyond generations.
In “Hereditas”, inheritance is not possession, but calling. It is a remembrance of where we have come from, and of the grace that sustains where we now stand. It is a living testimony of continuity, of faith kept, and of a promise that does not fade.
Featuring the Artist and an Aeta woman, as well as the flora of their ancestral heritage and the Artist’s current home. The Aeta are one of the Philippines’ earliest indigenous peoples, traditionally living as hunter-gatherers in the mountains of Luzon. Known for their deep connection to the land, they maintain rich cultural traditions despite displacement and ongoing challenges to their ancestral way of life.
