Empowering Regional Creatives Through Collaboration & Expression
The Junction Co. is delighted to host The Jury Art Prize 2025 finalist and acclaimed expressionist artist and sculptor Karen Chappelow for a two-day workshop residency this August – bringing her internationally celebrated practice to the heart of the Pilbara.
Karen’s artwork doesn’t whisper – it roars. With exhibitions spanning New York, Berlin, Rome and Melbourne, her powerful visual language reclaims space, reframes mythology, and sparks conversation. Her finalist work in this year’s Jury Art Prize, ‘My Body My Choice‘, boldly reimagines the myth of Leda and the Swan through a lens of choice and resistance, challenging historical narratives and amplifying women’s voices.
Beyond accolades, Karen is a curator, mentor, and maker whose practice bridges sculpture, painting, bespoke design, and social commentary. Her work has appeared in Art Edit Magazine, Home Design Magazine, and The Block, and she continues to redefine what it means to create with courage and complexity.
At The Junction Co., we believe in the power of connection – between artists, communities, and stories. That’s why we champion opportunities that bring outside talent into our region: to ignite collaboration, foster skill-sharing, and elevate local creatives across disciplines and experience levels. Karen’s workshops offer just that.
These workshops are designed to be inclusive, thought-provoking and deeply reflective of our commitment to access and creative development in the regions. Karen’s visit builds meaningful dialogue, uplifts emerging voices, and expands the possibilities of what art can do – and who gets to do it.
Let’s celebrate the power of creative exchange. See you there.

In this hands-on session, participants will explore the delicate tension between presence and absence. Working with Japanese rice paper and watercolour paper, you’ll create two artworks that reflect personal narratives of duality – layered, textured, and rich with meaning. Karen leads with warmth and flair, guiding participants through transformation techniques that culminate in expressive, mixed-media canvases.
